Our Story

Our wine house is located in Slap near Vipava, next to the village square in the middle of the nucleated settlement in the heart of Vipava Valley. Viticulture and winemaking have had a more than four-generation long tradition in our house.

We live in a rebuilt, more than 250-year-old house typical of Vipava Valley; under our yard we have a big modern wine-cellar allowing us to share with others what the vine offers us.

We do our best to succeed with new improvements and by considering everything we learnt from our ancestors, thus taking care of our descendants as well.

Curiosity

Above our wine-cellar, we found the oldest preserved example of Matija Vertovec’s book, Vinoreja (Winegrowing) published in 1844, which is another valuable proof of our rich tradition. It is particularly special since it is the only book with Matija Vertovec’s personal dedication. This book represents a very important monument in the history of literature since it is the first book intended for winegrowers and winemakers written in Slovene. Its replica can be seen in Goriški muzej in Nova Gorica, whereas the original still has a special place in our house, and we are honoured to show it to our visitors.

Vineyards

We have been cultivating approximately 11 hectares of vineyards situated mostly on marl terraces of Vipava hills. These favourable conditions were described already by Janez Vajkard Valvasor in Slava Vojvodine Kranjske (The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola) in 1689. We are aware that such a favourable position as well as the master’s hand give a special touch to our wine which reflects in its excellent quality.

Our Wine-Cellar and Wines

Our modern wine-cellar built in 2003 is particularly known for its white wines: Pinela, Rebula, Malvasia, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat. Among the red wine sorts we mostly grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We are pleased to welcome our visitors in the vaulted part of the wine-cellar around the unique wooden table with homemade prosciutto and a glass of fine wine.
